Hello from the Special Region of Yogyakarta, or as I put it to my partner yesterday, a much grungier Kyoto and the kind of hipster Melbourne wishes it could be.
Borobudur and Prambanan have been on my bucket list for ages, and finally, thanks to a Scoot sale, I bit the bullet, dusted off my very rusty Bahasa Melayu/Indonesia and booked an itinerary for four days.
We’re at the end of Day 2, an entire day spent in the sun at Timang Beach, riding a rickety human-operated gondola for the privilege of not walking across an even more rickety rope bridge.
Tomorrow we’ll spend the entire day at the UNESCO World Heritage sites with a DSLR camera, finishing with sunset at Pram and the Ramayana ballet on site. That will merit its own post, I think!
Until then, dear readers.
