A little over 20 weeks ago, I decided to start a Monday briefing to combat the sheer tedium of lockdowns and restricted international travel. If nothing else, I figured that I could grow a small but dedicated readership, and commit to the habit of weekly writing.
I’d love to hear from you, if you have a few minutes. Is this useful? Would you prefer to read other things? All comments welcome.
Mathematically accurate, I think. Happy to have my thinking challenged / someone present why infinite growth is possible on a finite planet (I don't believe it is).
In Defense of Finance – a long but worthwhile read. Are we capable of finding an alternative to what seems like a broken system, or is the system a result of the laws of nature? The author seems to think it is the latter.
If there's one article you should read going into 2021, it is the excellent Ed Yong's final pandemic piece of 2020. In another piece to ring in the new year, Zeynep Tufekci warns us about the mutated virus. Stay safe out there, friends.
Australia is facing interesting reckonings in this age of hyper-globalisation:
Brexit is done(ish). Where you sit on the political spectrum will determine your editorials/news coverage. Personally, I think Britain could seize this opportunity to play a bigger and longer game, or it could squander it. Recent events point to the latter as being the most likely outcome.
I love this Jules; it often results in an open tab or two for a deeper reader, always brilliant (and your curation is appreciated). *And* I also love it when writers share a paragraph or two of what’s happening in their world. Something to have it feel like a short letter along with the links. That may be just me, but it’s nice to get to know folks a bit more over time (outside of the noise of social media). 🌿
